This is a painting of the historic Silk Road by Mark Rafter. Silk Road refers to the interlocking Chinese silk trade routes betweeen the civilzations of China, India, Persia, Europe and Arabia. The Silk Road formally originated in the first century BC and remained a significant factor in the development of culture, philosophy, religion, and technology till its disintegration along with the Roman Empire.
